How Library Loan Due Dates Are Calculated

Library loans come with firm due dates. We use exact calendar day differences in your browser's local timezone to calculate an accurate daily reading pace.

1. Calendar Days Remaining
Due Date - Today

Exact local whole days between today and your library return date.

2. Required Pages Per Day
⌈Pages Left ÷ Days Remaining⌉

Always rounded up to the next whole page so you never fall half a chapter behind.

3. Daily Reading Time
(Pages/Day × 250 Words) ÷ WPM

Translates page counts into estimated minutes based on your measured reading speed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about finishing borrowed library books on time.

How many pages a day should I read to finish a library book?

Divide your unread pages by the days left before the due date. For example, a 300-page book with a standard 14-day loan requires approximately 22 pages per day (about 22 minutes of daily reading).

What if my library book is due in 3 or 7 days?

Use the quick due date buttons (3 days or 7 days) to see your accelerated reading schedule. If the required daily reading is more than you have available, check your library's app (such as Libby or your local catalog) to see if a renewal is available.

How do the quick pace alternatives work?

The alternatives table shows when you would finish if you read a fixed 10, 20, 30, or 50 pages each day. A green indicator shows which paces allow you to finish before the library loan expires.

Does this calculator work with digital loans (Libby, BorrowBox, CloudLibrary)?

Yes. Digital e-book loans often return automatically on the due date with no grace period, making pacing even more critical. You can enter e-reader page numbers or locations directly.

Does this tool store any of my library card or book information?

No. The Library Loan Planner runs 100% in your browser. We never ask for library cards, passwords, or personal data, and no reading history is sent to any server.
